I have residual income answers... home based businesses for life!

If you have been chasing the pre-launch mlm dreams, hoping to 'BE ON TOP' of 'the Next Big Thing,' over and over again... trust me, I've 'been there done that.' And the best advice I can give is PICK a company (or 2) where you will use the product whether there's an opportunity attached to it or not. Our teams have found THE BIG things, not 'the next big thing.' YOU are on the TOP of YOUR Game... you do NOT have to 'be in first' to 'make the big money' in MLM. This has been proven time & again.

We welcome you to our Gano Excel team if you're in one of these 7 countries in North & South America (USA, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Puerto Rico, & Dominican Republic).
Catch the Vision for what's to come in N. America, the King of coffee drinkers below while you see Gano Excel take S. America by storm! The King of coffee countries even embrace what Gano Excel has to offer!

So every company has it's pros & cons... The PRO about Gano Excel is it's got 2 of the 'best of the best,' the "King of Herbs, in ganoderma lucidum, or reishi mushroom more commonly known," and Mr. Leow Soon Seng was brilliant to add it to coffee, tea, & hot chocolate to make sure everyone would consume it! (More pros, pay plan, leadership, management, corporate team bridged with field, & great team full of heart here). The downside of Gano Excel is that although they're in 65 countries, they do not have fully seamless international sponsoring, at least not yet. From N. America, we can sponsor into the 7 countries I mentioned throughout North & South America & the Caribbean.

If you are outside of these countries & want to partner in internet marketing & residual income on our team, please contact me via skype (bodymindconnect) & find out our team's 2 year old, 100 Million Annually seamless international opportunity of choice aside from your marketing tool, GVO(Global Virtual Opportunities). It's not that you can't make a 'great living' from Gano Excel in just the countries we can sponsor in... it's that 'the world is your oyster' via the internet and my partners & I make friends all over the globe via internet marketing and accept the SKY as the limit, not borders.

If you're looking for a cool marketing system/ funded proposal for internet marketing, I am proud to offer one of my partner in propserity's 'second income coach' system. You can use it no matter what your primary business is, and it also will allow you to invite folks to your primary home based business, GVO & other list building marketing tools complete with training from industry bests.

In Love, Joy & Gratitude,
Carrie Gebbie, MS

Blogging to build your online business

Do you know that the search engine's LOVE blogs and blogging about your online business. Did you know it's a great way to 'attract' like minded business partners because they get to see YOU, your thoughts, ideas, & values, gain their first impression, and interview YOU before they ever reach out to YOU to join/partner with you in business?

How powerful is that!? A new online partner gets to know & love you & decide to join you before you've even spoken to them!? I am EVER grateful for the long term friendships, partnerships & residual income that I've 'earned' from my online presence.

I look forward to helping you do the same!

GVO Conference is launching!

Here's an email I got about something I promote & believe can make a difference in your life and business!

"Hey Carrie

I just got off the phone with my long time friend and

web host Joel Therien and he's getting ready to launch
something I think you'll want to be a part of yourself!

If you do not have time to read this email take two
seconds and get make sure you get on the early bird
list with me here:

http://gvo-carrie.myprelaunchinvite.com

You see..

Joel isn't just a web host. He has several products
and services that help marketers run and grow their
business that is tied in with his hosting platform.

In fact, in 2004 Joel launched an AMAZING VoIP conference
solution called Hotconference.

In just 3 months the product grew to over 7 million.. YES
seven million end users and downloads..

It grew so fast, that he grew himself and his data center
in Canada literally almost out of business..

It was launched in January 2004
By April 2004 it had 7 million end users!
By May it had grown so big that the company that provided
fibre optics to his data center told him there was no fibre
left in the city! WOW!

Fast forward to 2010..

Joel relocated his family and staff from Ottawa, Canada to
San Antonio, Texas.. (where fibre optics and bandwidth is
truly UNLIMITED)

...Just so that he could not only maintain his existing
client base, but so he could continue to grow at his rapid
pace and not be restricted by Canada's bandwidth limitations.

He spent millions setting up a brand new datacenter in San
Antonio and now 7 years later... he is re-launching
hi TOTALLY amazing conferencing software..

And he's going to need your help getting the
word out about it. Get more info here:

http://gvo-carrie.myprelaunchinvite.com

Remember.. history always repeats itself, Joel fully
expects to have well over 10 million people using this
within the first month alone!

I know that sound unrealistic, but if they had 7 million
before.. no reason they won't again! Especially because
I have seen the new version of their product and trust me...

I'm not sure there is anything on the market that compares to it!!

I have truly recognized that this has great potential, and
not only will I be using it, I will also be telling as many
people as I can about it.

If you want to know why, then go here and get on the
early bird list to get all the details:

http://gvo-carrie.myprelaunchinvite.com

Thanks,

Mike Filsaime

P.S. Joel will be taking down the early bird registration
very soon, so be sure just to take 2 seconds and register
now!

Michael Franti... a song near & dear to my heart... How does it ring with you?

"Been around the world, the more I see the less I know... but I know, one thing, that I LOVE YOU!"

Enjoy this video and SEE that ABUNDANCE is not ALWAYS in money... Michael actually filmed much of this "I love you" video in 'the impoverished' area of Brazil... but wow! Talk about JOY! We could learn something from them as we in America go through 'the Shift!'

We DO realize however that money is a valuable energy exchange & our goal is to help you attract/create more but ALSO to simply BE grateful for what is and live abundantly NOW as well!

How do I pick a home based business to create residual income?

Are you tired of punching the clock? Do you have the ability to do what you want, when you want? Are you able to attend all of your child or grandchild's events? Does your child have to stay after school in the after care program till 5 or 6 every day to wait for YOU to get off your day job? Do you run out of money each month to take care of your basic needs... or more importantly...to 'treat yourself' now and again... (for me, it's a massage!)

These are the questions you may want to ask yourself to see if you'd like to venture into a home business, part time...or even possibly to replace your job...

What to look for in a home based business?

1. Would I use this product or service EVEN IF THERE WASN'T AN OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE MONEY FROM IT! Very basic...but real... if you would NOT use the products or services with or without an income opportunity; then your 'customers & teammates' may not either, therefore it is NOT going to be RESIDUAL... I want to help you create a RESIDUAL INCOME from home...not just a bunch of one time sales!

2. Do you ENJOY working with the people you're signing up with or partnering with? Yes... you get to CHOOSE who you work with!

3. Is the product cost comparative to the mainstream marketplace? Many MLM products ARE overpriced, albeit HIGH quality and OFTEN worth the markup...

4. Is the product 'recession proof?'

5. Is the company stable and going to be here for you long term... Ok... we don't have a crystal ball...but there are signs!

That's it for now... ask yourself these questions before jumping into any home based business! If you need help deciphering, contact me & let me help you get started!

Join our "Secret Fortune" meetup as we begin giving tips on how to create your residual income from your computer & share solid companies for your work from home success!

GVO. Problem with MLM email video solved by GVO.

So... even though I've LOVED the IDEA of a multi-level marketing video marketing & lead capture tool... the pay plans of the other companies already on the market for this virtually FREE service (free to use youtube, google video, etc) I never understood the LOW 'first order or recruiting bonus' of MVT, TF, to name a few... and really...I've not understood the low 'residual pay' of these companies either.

You can create video email marketing campaigns using the Titanium account via GVO (Global Virtual Opportunities) for $44.95/mo.

Happy Memorial Day!

Feels so good to be back on MY computer! My computer was at the 'computer doc' for a crashed hard drive! SO, I was borrowing my son's mini acer to get by/emails/etc... But, it's just not as comfortable to get 'into the groove' as having MY computer! Though, I AM grateful my son is generous and shared! :)

In the meantime... I'm giving Gano Excel (THE Gold Standard in Healthy Coffee!) another focused effort while we wait! Here's why it deserves my attention! Gano Excel has now launched Peru, Mexico, Colombia & Dominican Republic for seamless sponsoring, as well as of course the US, Canada & Puerto Rico have been open... North America consumes the most coffee in the world! Furthermore, Gano Excel has paid me comissions for going on 6 years non-stop!
I've seen the highest retention with Gano Excel's Healthier Coffee/ganoderma products more than any other company I've been aligned with!

If you're still thinking of a way to create extra income or a new full time income for yourself and your family... Definitely take a look at Gano Excel! www.EverybodyDrinksCoffee.com

Dumbest Things You Do With Your Money
by Kathy Kristof
Saturday, May 1, 2010

http://finance.yahoo.com/banking-budgeting/article/109491/dumbest-things-you-do-with-your-money?mod=bb-budgeting
provided by
cbsmoneywatch.jpg

Brad Klontz knows all about the dumb things that smart people do with their money: He's a smart guy (with a doctorate in psychology) who lost half of his assets in the technology stock bubble.

A financial psychologist, Klontz says that when it comes to money smarts, size matters: The logical part of your brain is so much smaller than the emotional side that it's like "a circus performer riding an elephant." To make smart decisions about your finances, you need the logical side to dominate. But once you get tweaked by greed or fear, that elephantine emotional brain is likely to run amok.

More from MoneyWatch.com:

• Deal or No Deal? 8 Lousy 'Bargains'

• 5 Things You Should Buy at Wal-Mart

• Dumbest 401(k) Mistakes to Avoid

That's why otherwise intelligent people chase get-rich fantasies. Or cling to stocks that are long past their expiration dates. Or find other ways to let fear and superstition keep them from smarter financial moves. Here are nine of these common, emotionally driven money mistakes — plus some tricks from experts for getting that elephant in line.

1. Falling in Love ... With Your Investments

It can be great to fall in love with a person, but stocks can get you into deep trouble. Newport Beach, Calif., financial planner Laura Tarbox says she sees this all the time: Some clients keep concentrated stock holdings because they inherited them and "Mom just loved IBM," or because they work for the company and feel that selling would be disloyal.

Then there's the couple who came to her asking for help investing $12 million. "That sounded really great until we found out that this couple used to have more than $1 billion," Tarbox says. "All their money had been invested in a company that the husband helped launch — and he couldn't convince himself to diversify when he walked away."

Sorry, but that relationship just won't work, says Tarbox. No one should have more than 10 percent of his or her wealth locked in one stock. Just ask the former employees of Enron, who lost both their jobs and their retirement savings when the company filed for bankruptcy 10 years ago.

2. Chasing a Fantasy

You've read it 100 times: "Past performance is not an indication of future returns." But no one appears to believe it. Purveyors of investment data can trot out tons of statistics showing that when a mutual fund or asset class (such as gold, emerging markets stocks, or junk bonds) gets singled out for great quarterly or annual returns, investors start to pour money into that investment like it was going out of style.

And, of course, it is. One extensive study that looked at 19 years of market data found that investors consistently poured money into "hot" investments just as they were about to turn cold. That left the average investor with returns that fell way below the market as a whole and didn't even keep up with inflation. (For more on this, see our recent story "The Biggest Mistake Investors Make.")

Klontz admits that this is why he lost his shirt in technology stocks. It's a natural inclination to "run with the herd," he says with a shrug. Maybe so, but if you don't want to get trampled, you have to devise an investment strategy that suits your goals and then stick to it, even as your neighbor gets (temporarily) rich on the investment du jour.

3. Equating "On Sale" With "Good Deal"

Consider two television sets: Both are $500, but one is marked down from $800. Which one do you buy? If you're being reasonable, you buy the one that got the better rating in Consumer Reports. But most people buy the one that's on sale, says Matt Wallaert, a consultant for LendingTree, which owns the money management Web site Thrive. In fact, even people who would never have spent $500 on a television often will when it's discounted — simply because it's so cheap!

In reality, $500 is $500. If you wouldn't normally spend that much on a television (or any product, for that matter), you shouldn't do it now. We've been fooled by "anchoring": the illogical, but nearly inescapable, tendency to base our estimates of value on the nearest number we see, rather than an independent assessment. Just because the tag has $800 crossed out and replaced by $500, that doesn't mean $800 was a meaningful price. Indeed, an MIT experiment revealed that students who wrote down the last two digits of their Social Security numbers based their estimates of a wine bottle's worth on those two random numbers. The higher their numbers, the more the students were willing to bid for the wine.

Before you pull out your checkbook to splurge at a sale, evaluate whether the product, be it a television or a bread machine, is worth that price in enjoyment. Consider how often you'll use it, for instance, and whether you can get something of similar quality for less.

4. Retaliatory Spending

You don't need it. You don't want it. But, dang it, no one is going to tell you that you can't have it. New York psychologist Bonnie Eaker Weil calls it "POP" spending — for "pissed-off purchases." She did a survey before publishing her latest book, Financial Infidelity, and estimated from the results that POP spending accounts for about $424 billion in purchases each year.

One of Weil's Brooklyn-based clients, for example, went on a retaliatory $500 shopping spree when her husband gave one of her beat-up old jackets to charity without asking her first. When she got home, she informed him that since he didn't like her old jacket, she had gotten a new one from Saks Fifth Avenue. Such purchases can also result from a fight with your boss, mother, or best friend, according to Weil.

But as good as retaliatory spending may feel, it can do real damage to your financial health. Tarbox says a better approach is to talk out the anger, hurt, or disappointment — or just your bad day — with a friend, or even a professional counselor. If you have to spend money on a psychologist, it's probably still cheaper than the golf clubs or designer shoes you put on your credit card after that last argument with the boss.

5. Hanging On to Debt

The number of people who have money in savings accounts, earning less than 2 percent, while carrying debt on credit cards that charge more than 14 percent is "shocking," Wallaert says. Of Thrive's customers who have more than $500 in credit card debt, almost 40 percent have more than enough in savings to pay it off, he says.

Wallaert connects this mistake to "mental accounting" that separates our money into different stacks that we think ought to stay separate. But illogical separations can create mathematical mayhem.

Consider a person with $5,000 in credit card debt and $10,000 in savings. The debt costs him 14 percent per year, or $700, but the $10,000 in savings earns just 2 percent annually, or $200. He could pay off the debt, saving the $700, and still earn $100 annually on the remaining $5,000 in savings. Net result: He's immediately $600 richer and can start saving faster.

You might argue that you need those savings for emergencies. And you do need some emergency savings, allows Frank C. Presson III, a financial planner in Tucson, Ariz. But if you've got considerably more savings than debt, there's no excuse. Keep one month's worth of living expenses in the bank, even at those sorry returns, Presson advises. Use the rest to pay off the high-cost debt. Then rebuild the emergency savings, not the debt. Worst-case scenario: You still have the credit cards (now with zero balances), and you can tap them in an emergency.

6. Parental Martyrdom

An emerging problem involves parents who spend themselves to the edge of insolvency bailing out their children. "It starts from a good place, basically from wanting to be a good parent," Klontz says. "They'll say that Johnny is going through a rough patch and needs some help. But it becomes financial enabling."

Worse, it often causes the parents to suffer money woes that keep them from retiring or living comfortably because they're constantly paying Johnny's bills.

Any time you help an adult child, you should have a clear idea of how much help is necessary, how long it will be required, how it will help the child get back on his or her feet, and when (or whether) the child will have to pay you back. When there's no plan — just an open checkbook or couch — you turn the child into a dependent who becomes increasingly incapable of taking care of himself, Klontz says.

"I talk to the parents about how their attempts to help are like giving a drink to an alcoholic because his hand is shaking. This kind of helping is hurting," he says. "Then we talk about what kind of help would really help." (Hint: That kind generally doesn't involve cash.)

7. Cyber Insecurity

Roughly half the world has signed on for free online banking, which makes money management easier and saves the typical consumer about $50 annually in postage stamps. Among the people who don't use online banking, 41 percent say they've held back because of security concerns, according to a recent survey by Gartner Research.

What do banks typically do to secure online customer accounts? They put up multiple firewalls, which are the equivalent of brick enclosures around your house, and they have techno-security teams attempting to find the weak spots and shore them up. They also patrol the firewalls 24/7, looking for climbers.

Now, let's look at your mailbox. It's probably unlocked and unguarded — just what a thief needs to steal your credit cards. In reality, the chance of becoming a victim of identity theft or financial fraud as the result of low-tech crime — whether it's somebody stealing cards or "spoofing" you into providing private information via e-mail — is a lot greater than the chance that somebody will breach your bank's online vault.

So sign up already and save the stamps. And if you're worried about security, check your account regularly to make sure there's no suspicious activity.

8. State of Denial

Remember when you were 2 years old and you thought you could hide by closing your eyes? When the stock market plunged last winter and spring, that's just what investors did, leaving their quarterly statements sitting unopened on the counter.

If watching too closely would make you abandon a reasoned investment strategy, go ahead and ignore a statement or two. But losses don't go away just because you don't look at them, Tarbox points out. At some point, particularly if you're nearing retirement or need the dough for some other reason, you need to take a look, assess where you are, and figure out what to do about it.

9. Hoarding Money

Children of the Depression did a lot of this — stuffing $20 bills in their bibles or balling up tinfoil and rubber bands so they wouldn't have to buy more. But planners say that this is often a problem with wealthy and responsible older folks today: They're so afraid of running out of money that they don't enjoy the money that they have.

"When people deny themselves things that they could clearly afford, you have to ask them what they're saving that money for," Tarbox says. "We have to tell them that they're not spending enough."

If you're worried about running out of money, sit down with a financial planner and work out the math. Make sure you consider worst-case investment scenarios, not just the averages. That will make you more comfortable about weathering a bad patch like the one we just muddled through. Then, if you still have more than enough, make a plan that will allow you to enjoy your wealth by either spending the excess or giving it away.

Money, after all, is a means to an end — not the end itself. You save it to make you, and the people you love, calm and comfortable. And it's a lot more fun to take the kids and grandkids on vacation — or provide them with college money or other gifts while you're around to get the hugs and kisses — than to know that they'll inherit a fortune after you die.

First... debt and wealth are ALL relative... and don't forget, wealth is not JUST calculated in the 'green stuff!' :)

Tell it like it is! One of my mentors and 'downline' by placement...

says this in a recent article...

" John Maxwell makes a quip about how people believe they will become successful. He says they look for the three ‘L’s: Las Vegas, lotteries and lawsuits.
And ain’t that the truth today!

USA Today newspaper had one of those little graph boxes they do and they asked people how they were going to increase their savings. About 20 percent answered the lottery! And the next option was selling possessions. So there’s obviously a lot of misconceptions about what it takes to reach success in anything.

In Network Marketing we have a true pathway to success. But a few things you must always remember:

Success occurs despite obstacles.
Success occurs in the presence of fear.
Success occurs despite fear.

People say, “I have this problem so I can’t do the business.” No you need to do the business because you have that problem. Just saying…

-RG"

Happy Holidays! Merry Christmas Eve!

My son is off to DC enjoying the snow, his Daddy & Grandma & Grandpa..while I get to enjoy the view of the crisp, clear, view of the Santa Monica mountains from my home office...

As I sit here reflecting and wondering WHY it is that RAIN NUTRITION has gotten me RE-AWOKEN, and INSPIRED to share...and made it to the top of my recommendation list for building a residual income dynasty, I realize... usually... all these fabulous healthy products...I don't notice a difference (other than with healthy coffee (I feel those effects to this day after 5 years!) because THANKFULLY, I'm healthy! So alllll the health testimonials I may or may not have heard from my customers or teammates...I never had them for myself!

I've been on the Rain Nutrition products about 4 weeks now...and I notice my skin is smoother (must be from the Soul); and when I drink the healthy energy drink (Rush), I don't take/need my luxury nap! I notice I keep going, and going, and going! With a clear, focused energy and mental clarity. As well as I already sleep, I seem to be sleeping more deeply with more dreams too!

The next thing... I keep getting feedback to the folks I've introduced Rain to, and THEY are sharing stories with me, not only their own, but of the folks they've shared with! How FUN is that when someone CALLS YOU (more importantly, calls your teammates for more product...IE, DUPLICATION!) asking for more product!! One swimmer is having the best workouts of his career! Thanks to Storm! It's supposed to be for muscle recovery, but I'm hearing results of more stamina, power, & flexibility when they take it BEFORE their workout! I'm inspired to work out again too (I used to be a gymnast & bodybuilder but now a Mom... you know what that means, I usually get enough of a workout, but again...I'm inspired to do and be MORE now!)

I didn't mention yet the BRILLIANCE of Rain's marketing and branding department! Thank you Wendy! I don't know about you, but just listen to these words... "Soul" "Pure" "Rush" "Storm" "Rain" ... Do they resonate with you? They sure do for me!

Anyway, I'm ever grateful that I was open, and hopefully you are too, to RUNNING with ONE LAST company to buckle down and FOCUS going into the next decade together! I wish you all the best & all your heart's desires of freedom, abundance, joy, love & prosperity to you and yours this holiday season and always!

Peace & Blessings,

Happy Holidays filled with Joy, Love, Abundance & Prosperity for all now, and always!

As I sit down reflecting on the past year, and years... I just boil up with gratitude! Gratitude for my friends and 'family' (adopted through the internet, wow, what a wonderful wide web of presence) ... Gratitude for the learning experiences...Gratitude for my amazing, old soul, 8 year old son who through even the harder, character building times... is ALWAYS a joy-filled with laughter and tears of gratitude from laughing so hard sometimes (get a peak of him with Santa at the airport on my FACEBOOK page, add me as a friend for that matter!)

I just want to thank each and everyone of you who know to get this message, and new passer by's as well, from the bottom of my heart & soul... for sharing, loving, caring, excelling, learning, thriving, re-organizing, ready now for exponential growth in so many areas of your life... you know what I mean!

In all the trials & tribulations of the not so distant past... I have to say, we as a team, are poised to create some incredible success stories filled with love, joy, abundance and prosperity... The truth of the matter, it's been here all along... now, we plan to TAP IN and utilize those skills, aligned with the right resources, people, and company and take all of our learning experiences over the last decade to absolutely push the limits (SKY is the limit!) as we step into 2010, the next decade!

Thank you for EVERYTHING!

1. The Brooklyn Bridge

New York, N.Y.

As thrilling a sight as this beautiful brown-hued East River bridge is from afar, with its Gothic-style towers and lacy mesh of cables, the view from the bridge is even more thrilling. A boardwalk-like pedestrian walkway goes all the way across, raised slightly above the car traffic. One mile long, it should take about half an hour to traverse — except you’ll be tempted to stop more than once to ooh and ahh at the vision of Manhattan’s skyscrapers thrusting upward, with the great harbor and Verrazano Bridge beyond.

Why has the Brooklyn Bridge captured the popular imagination more so than other New York City bridges? Well, for one thing, it was the first steel-wire suspension bridge in the world when it opened in 1883. (Until then, the only way to get from Manhattan to Brooklyn was via ferry.) Ever since, the Brooklyn Bridge has become a byword in New York lore. The bridge has appeared in countless movies and TV shows, its outline practically synonymous with New York City.

If your kids aren’t hardy urban trekkers, walk halfway to get the view and then double back to Manhattan. Be aware that things get awfully windy once you’re above the water!

Why They'll Thank You: It’s one thing to see a landmark, another to walk across one.

2. The Pacific Coast Highway

Los Angeles to San Francisco

Beginning near the old mission town of San Juan Capistrano, state Highway 1 hugs the California coast all the way to Leggett, in Northern California, darting around coves and clinging to steeply shelving cliffs, with the Pacific Ocean almost always out your side window. It’s not the most efficient route to take from southern to northern California (or vice versa). Travelers intent on getting there fast opt for inland I-5, or at least U.S. 101. No, if you’re driving the Pacific Coast Highway, you’re looking for scenery — and some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in the world it is.

The most dramatic stretches of the drive occur where the mountains crowd close to the ocean’s edge — for instance, just north of Santa Barbara, where the Santa Inez peaks tumble precipitously to the beach, or the entire section from Morro Bay north to Carmel, where the sea nips at the toes of the Santa Lucia mountains. Each curve reveals another jaw-dropping vista, narrow strips of white foam-edged sand purling below you on one side, furrowed brown mountainsides beetling over you on the other. Surfers bob on their boards offshore — or are those seals? — and hawks coast dreamily overhead. It’s beautiful at noon, with blue skies and bright sun; it’s beautiful in a haunting fog; it’s beautiful glowing at sunset; it’s even beautiful in a wistful gray rain. It’s just plain beautiful.

Why They'll Thank You: Riding the curves, watching the surf.

3. Niagara Falls

New York & Ontario, Canada

Everyone’s seen a Kodachrome photo of Niagara Falls, that stupendous curve of cascading water that lies between the United States and Canada. It’s one of those sites, however, that postcards never do justice to: To stand on a viewing platform and see, really see, how big it is, to hear the thunder of falling water, to feel the mist spritzing your face is another thing altogether.

There are actually two waterfalls here, both of them doozies: the American Falls and Horseshoe Falls. Both are around 175 feet high, although Horseshoe Falls, at 2,500 feet wide, is more than twice as wide as its sibling. Bring your passport, because the Canadian shore has the real panoramic view; both falls can be seen from the American side, but not together. No matter where you arrive from, you can easily visit both by crossing the Rainbow Bridge, preferably on foot — it’s only the length of a couple city blocks.

On the U.S. shore, head for Niagara Falls State Park: An observation tower overlooks the river, and Cave of the Winds takes you down by elevator onto boardwalks where you can walk around the base of the American Falls. Canada’s Journey Behind the Falls allows you to descend via elevator to tunnels punctuated with portholes that look out through the blur of water right behind Horseshoe Falls. The coolest way to see the falls, of course, is the classic Maid of the Mist boat ride, which plays no favorites; it departs from either shore.

Why They'll Thank You: Roaring water, mist, and rainbows galore.

4. New Orleans

Louisiana

For some people, it took a hurricane for them to realize they should have visited New Orleans. Here was a true original among American cities, a place where people danced with parasols at funerals, ate beignets and po’ boys, believed in voodoo and vampires, and threw plastic beads off parade floats. Despite its raunchy Bourbon Street reputation, it was always a great family destination.

The part of New Orleans least affected by the disaster was its prime tourist area: the French Quarter, one of the few areas that had been built above river level and escaped heavy flooding. The French Quarter — or as local signs have it, the Vieux Carré — is, despite the name, a Spanish-flavored fantasy of wrought-iron balconies and tiny flower-filled courtyards and alluring louvered windows, its centerpiece being gardenlike Jackson Square. Just walking around here is entertainment, but several attractions are especially appealing to families: the touristy-but-fun Historic Voodoo Museum, the kitschy Musée Conti Wax Museum, and the Old U.S. Mint which, despite the name, is all about New Orleans jazz history and Mardi Gras traditions. At the open-air French Market that runs along Decatur Street from Jackson Square to Esplanade Avenue you can dine on snacks like gator on a stick. Really.

Why They'll Thank You: They’ll know what it means to love New Orleans.

5. Devil’s Tower

Devil’s Tower, Wyo.

There is definitely something otherworldly about this stark monolith rising out of the Wyoming pines and prairies. The Northern Plains Indians called it Bears Lodge, and it has sacred meanings for them too. Even seeing a picture of it is unforgettable, but visiting Devil’s Tower in person — well, that’s more special than you’d imagine.

The flat-topped cone that became Devil’s Tower used to be under a shallow sea, but once the waters receded, centuries of erosion gradually wore away the softer rock around the hard igneous cone, leaving it exposed. Today the cone thrusts 1,267 feet above the surrounding pine trees and prairie grasslands. The flat top gave Steven Spielberg the idea of an extraterrestrials’ spaceport for his movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and a parachutist did land on top in 1941, drawing great publicity — especially since he then had to figure out how to get down!

For most of us, the best way to experience Devil’s Tower is to take the 1.3-mile paved Tower Trail that circles around the base. It’s very kid-friendly, being mostly flat (after a steep climb at the start) with benches and interpretive stations along the way. Take your time walking so that you can examine this rugged pinnacle from every angle and in different lights. Bring sketchbooks and try to draw its stern majesty.

Why They'll Thank You: An icon of the West with mystical power.

6. Mount Rushmore & The Crazy Horse Memorial

Keystone & Custer, S.D.

When you think about it, Mount Rushmore is one of the oddest monuments ever: gigantic chiseled faces of four U.S. presidents — why four? Why those four (Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt)? And why in the South Dakota Badlands? Crazy as it is, darned if another group didn’t raise money to carve another mountain nearby with an even bigger sculpture, depicting American Indian chief Crazy Horse.

Mount Rushmore was the passion of one individual: Gutzon Borglum, a Danish-American sculptor from Idaho, who was hired by South Dakota to make a memorial to draw visitors to the Black Hills. Borglum chose this peak because it was hard granite, the highest in the area, and it faced southeast, where it would catch good daytime light. A 1-mile Presidential Trail leads from the monument’s museum to viewing terraces at the base of the mountain; take a guided tour so the kids can learn all the curious history.

To many Native Americans, Mount Rushmore is an intrusion on sacred landscapes, so the Lakota tribe initiated their own project 17 miles away. Sculptors began to hew the image of Chief Crazy Horse astride a thundering stallion in 1948 and 50 years later only the chief’s nine-story-high face had been completed. Still, even kids should be able to trace the form emerging from the granite. When finished, Crazy Horse will be so big that all four heads on Mount Rushmore can fit inside it.

Why They'll Thank You: Giant statues for American giants.

7. Dinosaur Valley

Glen Rose, Texas

Even the youngest dinosaur lovers — and aren’t pre-schoolers the biggest dinosaur fans there are? — can interpret the fossil record left in stone at Dinosaur Valley: The huge footprints in the rocks here are so unmistakable it’s easy to picture the prehistoric theropods and sauropods who made them 110 million years ago.

You’ll find the prints beside the Paluxy River, which winds through this shady, lovely 1,500-acre park about an hour’s drive southwest of Fort Worth, Texas. Late summer, when the river is low, is the best time to come. You can discern the footprints best when the rock is just slightly underwater. Tracks can easily be seen at two spots in the park: The main site is across the northwest parking lot and down some stone steps to the river; upstream is the Blue Hole, a sinkhole with many more brontosaur tracks (it’s also a great place for swimming, so bring your suits).

The visitor center has replicas, foot skeletons, murals, and diagrams to help kids visualize the dinosaurs. What’s more, outdoors stand two immense fiberglass models, one of a brown T-Rex and the other of a green Apatosaurus — relics of the Dinosaur World exhibit at the 1964 New York World’s Fair. Scientists still argue over what the head of the Apatosaurus should look like, but hey, we’re all still learning.

Why They'll Thank You: Dinosaurs walked here.

8. Gettysburg National Park

Gettysburg, Penn.

“Awesome” doesn’t begin to do justice to this vast battleground, where thousands of Union and Confederate soldiers clashed for three sultry July days in 1863. As Abraham Lincoln himself said in his famous 1864 speech here, this land has been consecrated by blood — over 50,000 deaths — and an almost-eerie atmosphere hangs over this tranquil patch of rolling farmland, now peppered with war monuments.

The park visitor center has an excellent light-and-sound presentation with a scale-model map of the battlefield, which is quite helpful — after all, the battle raged over a large patch of country in the course of four days, and there’s a lot to keep straight. The Cyclorama Center, next to the visitor center, a 360-degree depiction of Pickett’s Charge painted in 1883, is the sort of pre-video-era special effect you rarely see these days. And after a three-year restoration project it’s looking better than ever.

Audiotapes are available for self-guided driving tours around the 250-acre battle site, but it’s worth it to invest in a personal guide, who will ride with you around the battlefield. These guides are gold mines of Civil War information, tailoring the tour to your particular interests and dishing out biographies of the commanders and the physics of cannon fusillades.

Why They'll Thank You: Brother fought brother on this bloody ground.

9. National Air and Space Museum

Washington, D.C.

The National Air and Space Museum is pretty much the star player on the Smithsonian museum team, at least as far as kids are concerned. Its thrills begin as soon as you walk into the sleek entrance hall and see the historic aircraft dangling from the ceiling — the Wright brothers’ 1903 Wright Flyer, Charles Lindbergh’s Spirit of St. Louis, and the Friendship 7 capsule that took John Glenn into space. Whether you come here for the history, the science, or just the technothrill of seeing so much heavy metal, Air and Space delivers the goods.

Besides gawking at the famous planes hanging out in the lobby, kids love to walk through the Skylab orbital workshop, and other galleries highlight the solar system, U.S. manned spaceflights, and aviation during both world wars. You can sneak in some hard science education with “How Things Fly,” an interactive exhibit that demonstrates principles of flight and aerodynamics (the wind and smoke tunnels are especially fun), and get into some heady astrophysics with “Explore the Universe,” which probes theories about how the universe took shape.

The second part of the museum is out near Dulles Airport in Chantilly, Va., where two gigantic hangars — one for aviation artifacts, the other for space artifacts — accompany a 164-foot-tall observation tower for watching planes land and take off at the airport. The space hangar is the length of three football fields — it has to be in order to house such huge artifacts as the space shuttle Enterprise, rocket boosters, spacewalk capsules, and a full-scale prototype of the Mars Pathfinder lander.

Why They'll Thank You: Historic flying machines soaring in the lobby.

10. The Grand Canyon

Arizona

While it’s awesome indeed to stand on the rim of the Grand Canyon, something about that monumental chasm makes you long to just dive in and discover. Any number of hiking trails lead down into this great natural wonder, raft trips ply its waters, and helicopters buzz overhead—but surely the most memorable way to explore the Grand Canyon is to pick your way down the steep, narrow trails on the back of an ornery mule. Let the trail-wise mules find their footing on the stony paths while you gaze around you, drinking in the unfolding vistas of this vast network of canyons.

The best options for kids depart from the North Rim and are offered by Canyon Trail Rides. Children as young as 7 can try out the mules on a one-hour scenic ride along the rim; at 10 years and up, they can do half-day trips. If the kids are 12, they can take a full day trip, going 4,300 feet down and back up the North Kaibab Trail through a terrain of bright red rocks to Roaring Springs (aptly named — you’ll hear it well before you reach it).

The real classics, though, are 1- or 2-night packages that go to the bottom of the canyon and include sleeping arrangements and simple meals at Phantom Ranch, the only lodging available below the rim. Don’t expect luxury — it’s all bunk-bedded cabins and dorms, connected by dirt footpaths and shaded by cottonwood trees. Book quickly: These Phantom Ranch trips are so popular they fill up as soon as reservations are accepted, 23 months in advance.
